GREATER FORT MYERS POOL LEAGUE
RULES
NOTE:
A PLAYER IS ANY REGULAR PLAYER OR SUB. ALL PLAYERS MUST HAVE FIRST AND LAST NAMES SUBMITTED OR THEY WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PLAY.
1. BARS/SPONSORS: Each bar shall have two League approved tables available for League players. If a bar changes ownership or its name, the President must be notified.
2. SPONSOR FEES: The Sponsor Fee is $20.00 per team and must be paid by the first week of play of the season or they will be dropped from the League.
3. TEAMS: Teams will consist of six players and two/three substitutes.
4. RESPONSIBILITIES OF TEAM CAPTAINS:
A. To make sure all team members and substitutes sign that they have read and understand all League rules.
B. To act as referee.
C. If, for any reason, the captain cannot watch the game, it is his/her responsibility to advise the opposing team captain and designate a member of his/her own team to watch the game for them.
D. Turn in completed score sheets, team monies and any changes the night of play in your envelope provided (and make sure they are sealed) to Bayshore Billiards on Bayshore Rd. ON MONDAY NIGHT or TUESDAY BEFORE 6 P.M.
E. Captains MUST turn in their phone numbers to the Secretary/Treasurer (on the bottom of the first weeks score sheet) so that if there is a problem or changes, they can be contacted.
5. TIME: Players must start play by 7:35 p.m. if a player is late; he/she must arrive before the break of the second round. If the player is not present by the break of the second round, they lose their points for that night. There is no excuse or reason for not showing up or having a sub shoot.
6. STARTING POINTS: All new players will start with zero points and are to be positioned on the score sheet in the second position for four consecutive weeks of play. After the four weeks, the new player will be repositioned according to the points he/she has earned. When a new player is added to the team, four asterisks (*) will be placed behind their name on the Weekly Standings sheet and taken one off each week he or she played. That way, anyone looking at the standings will know this is a new player and it will show how many weeks remain of the original four weeks that they have to play in the second position.
7. POINTS: One point for the winner of each game and zero points for the loser of each game. Teams cannot pass a team in the standings on a tie. They must stay behind until the other team is beaten in total points. Each team will receive one bonus point for each doubles game won.
8. PLAYER FEES: All players will pay $7.00 per week. $5 of the $7 goes to the Captain even when they are absent from play and the sub shoots for them. Each player is responsible for one quarter for each game played. If the bar opens the tables, each person who is playing is to give the Captain $1.00 for the bar in place of the quarters. Captain is responsible for paying the appropriate amount of monies for the tables. League Lottery is not optional. 50% of Lottery money collected goes to the League, 50% goes to a randomly chosen League player. The winner will be awarded the money at the bar he/she is playing at on the following Monday night.
9. LINE UP: The line up on the score sheets cannot be changed once it is written down unless the reason for the change is verified with the opposing team captain. Players shooting in the wrong position on the score sheet will forfeit all points for that night. Score sheets start with the high player (player with the most points earned) in position #1 and go down in order of points earned to the player with the lowest amount of points in position #6. Games will start with the sixth player and go to the first player. Tables will be alternated unless otherwise agreed upon by the captains.
10. DESIGNATED TABLES: Use designated tables unless they are not in working order, then the captains will decide which tables to use. If the captains cannot agree, they will flip a coin and the winner chooses the tables to be used. If a captain thinks another table is interfering with the League game in play, he or she can request the other table be shut down.
11. JUKEBOX: Captains can request the jukebox to be turned down if it is too loud.
12. FEET: There must be one foot on the floor when shooting except for handicapped persons.
13. PLAY: Play will consist of three single games and one doubles game per player.
A. Captains will flip a coin and the winner's team will break the first round and third round. The opposing team will break the second round and the doubles round.
B. Cue ball must hit racked balls directly before game is in play. If the breaker misses three times, the opponent may break.
C. If the person breaking pockets a ball on the break, that is the type ball he/she is to shoot (low or high) providing the break is not a scratch shot. If the person breaking does not pocket any balls, the table is still considered open.
D. Only when the table is "open," any ball (high or low), except for the 8 ball, can be used in a combination shot.
E. Double hit on the cue ball is a miss stroke and the player loses their turn.
F. If a ball is accidentally moved, players of the game will decide if the ball is to be put back or left where it is.
G. Any ball knocked off the table is to be spotted, except the 8 ball, which is an automatic loss of game.
H. A ball must be 100% passed the line to be shot by the cue ball on a scratch shot - it cannot be touching at all.
I. You MUST call the object ball and pocket. Make sure your opponent knows the pocket you call on all your shots. It does not matter what the players ball hits if it goes into the pocket called, it is a good and legal hit. If you are shooting the 8 ball, it does not have to be a clean shot as long as it is hit first and it goes into the called pocket.
J. KITCHEN RULE: If all of a players balls are behind the line and the opponent scratches on their shot, the player can spot one of his/her balls (even if its the 8 ball) that is closest to the line.
14. BAD HITS: If the captains agree there is a dispute of a bad hit, the game will be played over.
15. IN THIS LEAGUE, THERE WILL BE:
A. NO COACHING, (in any language) during singles matches. During doubles games, the partners can coach each other but no one else can. Any player can remind another player to call the 8-ball, but that is the only ball. If coaching persists and cannot be resolved between captains, stop game and immediately call President or Secretary.
B. NO HARASSING (in any language). If a player is harassed during a game, captains will warn persons involved. Take all grievances to the captains before shooting another ball. If the harassing continues, the harassed player automatically wins that game. If captains cannot settle the dispute, stop game and immediately call President or Secretary at the time of the problem.
C. NO PROFANITY (in any language).
D. NO GAMBLING.
E. NO FOOD, DRINK, OR CIGARETTES ON POOL TABLES.
F. NO JUMPING OF BALLS - PENALTY - LOSS OF SHOT.
G. NO ONE UNDER THE LEGAL DRINKING AGE ALLOWED ON ANY TEAM.
16. PLAYERS OR TEAMS: Team captains have the option as to who will play on their team. Players must show I.D. upon request. The League President and Secretary has the final say as to acceptance of bars, teams, players, and rule changes.
17. LEAVING PLAYERS: Accumulated points of a player who leaves the team will be carried on the score sheets as Mr. X. The Mr. X points are included in the total team points.
18. REPLACEMENT PLAYERS: Any replacement player, name printed in full on bottom or back of score sheets, must be turned in the week before he/she is able to play, so he/she will be listed on the Weekly Standing sheets. NO PHONE CALLS - NO EXCEPTIONS. There will be no replacements during the last four weeks of play.
19. SUBSTITUTE PLAYERS: The sub only pays his/her quarter for each game played. The player the sub is shooting for is responsible for the rest of the fee. The sub does not accumulate any points; the points they earn are logged under Mr. Xs points on score sheets. They may shoot any night, even if the regular player is present. They must shoot in the position of the player they are subbing for. The regular player may stay and watch. The captain will decide if the sub is eligible for any portion of the prize monies.
20. BARRED PLAYERS: When a barred persons team is scheduled to play where that person is barred, the player, along with the team captain, may contact the bar to see if he/she can play and then leave. If the barred person cannot play, a sub will have to shoot for him/her or the games will be forfeited.
21. DROP OUT TEAMS: If a team drops out or is dropped by the League, the teams that played or are to play the dropped team will receive a total of 21 points for that particular night. Any player getting off a team for any reason will not be allowed to play on any other team for the remainder of the season except for any bar that is closed, then these players may be allowed to join another team and they will be allowed to carry their individual points for the sole purpose of total individual points only and they must not owe any monies to the League.
22. MONIES OWED: NO TEAM WILL BE ALLOWED TO OWE LEAGUE OVER $30.00. When a team owes over $30.00, the Sec/Treasurer or President will advise the team captain and sponsor that the team will have one week (until the following Monday) to pay all of the shortage AND the current week in full. If this is not paid in full, the team will be dropped from the League. If this happens again, the Sec/Treasurer or President will again advise team captain and sponsor of the second offense. Any team that is over $30.00 owed for a third time will be dropped from the League and has no chance to pay shortage and will forfeit any and all monies paid to League.
23. MEETINGS: If the President and/or Secretary calls a meeting, all players and sponsors may attend, but only the sponsor and captain of each team may vote. This means there are two votes per team. If the sponsor or captain cannot attend, they can send someone in their place.
24. VOTING: Rule changes, additions, or suggestions are to be voted on by questionnaire instead of meetings if possible. Any suggestions can be submitted to the Sec/Treasurer with the score sheets and there will be a questionnaire sent out with the paperwork for voting on by the League players.
25. CANCELLATIONS/MAKE UP GAMES: Please be advised, if we are under a TROPICAL STORM WARNING OR A HURRICANE WATCH, there will be NO POOL that night. The particular night in question will be re-scheduled for another date. Any Make-Up Games will be played within 4 weeks of originally scheduled game.
26. END OF SEASON: There will be a party at one of the Sponsor bars at the end of each season where monies collected from teams, sponsors, and League lottery will be distributed (minus money for supplies, Secretary pension, trophies, high pointers, and tournaments).
A. PLAY-OFFS - There will be a play-off for high point man from each team to compete against each other and a play-off for high point woman from each team to compete against each other. Subs are eligible for these play-offs as well. The play-off winners will receive prize monies as follows:
First Place $100.00
Second Place $50.00
Third Place $25.00
B. TROPHIES - Trophies will be awarded to First, Second, Third, and Last Place teams.
C. ADDITIONAL TROPHIES - There will be a trophy and $100.00 for the high point man and a trophy and $100.00 for high point woman of the League. If there are any ties, the monies will be split and each person will receive a trophy.
MAKE SURE ALL TEAM MEMBERS, INCLUDING SUBS, SIGN THAT THEY HAVE READ AND UNDERSTAND THESE RULES.
Captains will leave signed Rules in your team notebook.
